The Toddler Travel Hack That Went South!

Okay! It has been a minute since you’ve heard from me on traveling with a little one! I have graduated from having a baby to a toddler this past December! Alina is now on Organic Whole Milk with DHA, blah, blah, blah! 🙄 Whatever.

I definitely wanted her to consume Almond Milk like her dad and I, but she needs all of the fat and DHA for healthy brain development. Anyways, that was totally off-topic!

Where was I? That’s right, the travel hack that went completely south! This past Monday, we hopped on a flight from Atlanta to Charleston. I will have to admit, this is our first flight since Alina has turned one. The day before flying out, I ran frantically through Target looking for milk that I could travel with that didn’t necessarily have to be refrigerated. After looking up and down the aisle I thought would have it, I asked a sales associate who directed me where I could locate this amazing gem!

I was so excited to find this option by Horizon! One pack of 12-8 oz containers were good for our roundtrip. I called my fiancé talking about how great this milk would be. We wouldn’t have to travel with old milk from 6:00am that morning!

Once we checked into the airport we were off to TSA Pre Check! Did I mention this is a lifesaver when you’re traveling with a baby?! Totally worth the $80 for 5 years. You don’t have to take everything off. We already travel with enough stuff as it is! Now, as a frequent flyer, it wasn’t a surprise that my bag needed to be checked by TSA. After all, there were snacks galore, milk, bottles, water, you name it! They started the process of going through the bag when I walked up and was told because the sealed containers of milk couldn’t be tested, I had to get a pat down. I was so frustrated. Who wants to be touched all over in a crowd of people? Removing my boots, and completely embarrassed, I stood with my legs hip with apart and was patted down over milk. Food for my daughter! The things we do for those we love. After a few tests, I was clear to pack up and head over to my terminal.

One thing I learned today was that the pat down that I occurred wasn’t necessary, because I have TSA PreCheck. A simple hand swab is only required. So! I learned TWO LESSONS that I would like to share with you!

  1. If you don’t feel like dealing with TSA patting you down or swabbing your hands, refrain from milk on the go!
  2. If you have TSA PreCheck, you are NOT required to get a pat down, only a hand swab!

I hope this helps with any upcoming trips for you Mum!

Keep On Blossoming, Mum!
